The Azanian People’s Organization (AZAPO) has noted both with anger and revulsion the brutal killing of George Floyd.
It is with sadness and sorrow that we have to commiserate with the loved ones and relations of George Floyd during this moment of their bereavement. This racist murder, which occurred in the full glare of spectators, is the latest in the long line of the ever-spiraling gratuitous killing of unarmed African Americans at the hands of racist White Americanpolicein the United States.
It should not surprise us as their ancestors annihilated the indigenous people of that land and called it the ‘New World’ that was ‘discovered’ by Christopher Columbus, one of their ancestors, and likewise, some towns and cities became ‘New York’… AZAPO joins the millions of right thinking and progressive people in condemning this callous taking of Black people’s lives.
No amount of cover-up or apologist approach of attributing this brutal killing to any other cause other than the blatant disregard of human life can assuage the massive anger and revulsion expressed by throngs of Black people throughout America right now. What is particularly disturbing is that this public lynching took place during the Afrikan Liberation Month, when we are still witnessing the disproportionate death of Black people due to COVID-19that tends to attack the respiratory organs of its victims and rendering them unable to breathe on their own.
As if to add to the ravaging effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the racist cops murdered George Floydby depriving him of air. The resurgence of the global right-wing neo-fascist tendency has to be exposed and fought on all fronts by Black people since they are the primary targets be it in Europe, the United States.
It should also be a lesson to some of the minorities that this global White Right-wing tendency will go for them when there are no more Blacks to be wantonly killed. Such racist onslaughts require the highest level of Black Solidarity among all so-called minority groups in the land of the Cheyenne and Sioux nations. The oft-repeated message that united we stand divided we fall should ring through at this moment with the understanding that if they come for George Floyd during the day they will certainly come for you at night.
Whether Arabic, Hispanic, Muslim, Chinese, Puerto Rican the white racist superstructure will come for you the next day. Together with all progressive and revolutionary forces, AZAPO would like to recommit itself to the ongoing rebuilding of an anti-imperialist Pan-Africanist Front that is infused with Black Solidarity and the desire to bestow on this earth, a more human face.
