Tropicair has confirmed the hijacking of one of its aircrafts this morning.
In a statement issued to EMTV, the office of the CEO confirmed that the hijacking took place while the aircraft was refuelling at Gasmata in West New Britain.
The gang of eight men approached the pilot and forced him to fly them to an unused airstrip.
Tropicair operations monitored the aircraft via satelite tracking thoughout the duration of the flight.
Upon arrival at their destination the armed men ran off with baggage and cargo that was onboard the aircraft.
Apart from the eight men, there were no other passengers on board.
The pilot was unharmed and the aircraft was left in good condition.
Pilot returned safely back to Port Moresby.
Police have begun investigations.
