The Barbados Tridents Under-20 men’s football team put a 3-0 beating on The Cayman Islands to qualify for the knockout round in the CONCACAF 2020 Championship that leads to the 2021 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Indonesia.

Along with Barbados, the other teams to qualify in a playoff among 17 Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football matches played over the weekend are Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, and Guadeloupe.

These four teams will join a pre-qualified group of 16 for the 2020 CONCACAF Championship to be played in Honduras between 20 June and July 05.

The 16 teams had pre-qualified because they were the highest ranked among the 33 entering the championship, and the lower ranked remaining 17 had to playoff to decide on the top four to go to the Championship rounds.

The four top teams to emerge from the Championship in Honduras will go on to next year’s World Cup.

CONCACAF states that players born on or after Jan. 01, 2001 are eligible to compete.

The Barbados Tridents were unbeaten in their playoff fixtures, conquering Bermuda 3-2; Puerto Rico 4-0; and the Cayman Islands 3-0.

As the statistics above show, the tightest match for the Barbados Tridents was the Bermuda encounter.

The teams were tied at two goals apiece by the 73rd minute, but striker Thiery Gale put the Tridents ahead in the 87th minute with his second and winning goal.
