LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, Apr. 3(PIA) – – The Philippine Red Cross Benguet Chapter carried out relief operations including conduct of activities during the imposition of the Luzon-wide Enhanced Community Quarantine to prevent the spread of the coronavirus – 2019.
PRC Benguet Chapter Administrator Oscar Paris bared their office coordinated early on with business establishments and individuals for the pooling of donations for the relief operations. Donations in cash and in kind including logistical support to facilitate operations poured in.
To date, cash donations totalled to P26,000.00 from generous donors namely Dinum Energy Drink (P4,000,00); Nick Moran (P4,000.00); Laarni Demot (P3,000.00), Juliet Dumpayan (P5,000.00); and the Rotary Club of Baguio (P10,000.00).
Donations in kind were basic necessities and prime commodities such as sacks of rice, canned goods, noodles, coffee, soap, toothpaste. Other essential goods donated were alcohol, disinfectant and personal protective equipment for frontliners, masks, rain coats including spray for disinfecting vehicles.
Dangwa family donated 50 sacks rice (25 kilograms), 23 boxes sardines, 50 boxes noodles, two boxes 3 in 1 coffee, three boxes soap, three boxes toothpaste; Tiong San La Trinidad – 35 gallons Isopropyl alcohol, raincoats, PPEs, 16 tents on loan; Josephine Gacad – 300 liters diesel; BMEG RD Square Enterprises – 10 bottles and one gallon disinfectant; Sunrise Farm Supply – four pieces knapsack sprayer; Board Member Robert Namoro – 5 sacks rice (25 kgs); Sandy Rafael – five sacks rice (25 kgs); Tony Nadiasen – four sacks rice (25 kgs); Oliver de Leon – five boxes sardines and two boxes noodles; Casio Paris Jr – three boxes corned beef, two boxes meat loaf, and two boxes noodles; and Rotary of Baguio – assorted medicines.
Board Member Nestor Fongwan Jr donated five sacks rice (25 kgs), four gallons Isopropyl alcohol and three gallons chlorox with one power compressor to be used for the disinfection area for ambulances and vehicles to transport persons under investigation (PUIs) and persons under monitoring (PUM). Oliver De Leon donated15 gallons of Isopropyl alcohol.

PRC Benguet Board Chairman Robert Marcos Namoro together with Board of Director Maria Carantes led the distribution of face masks, alcohol, disinfectant, surgical gloves, medicine and snacks to frontliners at Sablan, Tadiangan, San Pascual, Marcos Highway and Kennon Road. Some of the donated alcohol, disinfectant and tents were distributed at Marcos Highway, Kennon Road, Naguilian Road and Sablan exit and entry points. Alcohol and disinfectants were also provided at San Pascual, Tuba entry point and the town of Tublay.
Bother Tit’s Men’s Fashion donated 200 pcs washable face masks for distribution to frontline works in exit and entry checkpoints.
Venus Park View Hotel donated150 pcs linens, 50 pcs pillow cases and 10 pcs blankets while Reliance Furniture and General Merchandise donated18 pcs of pillows for offsite Quarantine Area at the Benguet State University Compound.
Jefferd Acop and Tuba Vice Mayor Maria Carantes extended logistical support for hauling of donations and dispatching of frontline workers in entry and exit points, respectively.

Other activities undertaken by the chapter were information education campaign in Omas Ampaguey Elem School in Sablan on COVID 19 even prior to the ECQ; setting up of disinfection area for ambulances and vehicles used to transport of PUIs and PUMS; activation of Red Cross Action Team to assist at the Sablan Entry/Exit Check point; assisted in the setting up of the Offsite Quarantine Area of the Provincial Health Office located at the Benguet State University Compound; and assisted in the coordination of the rolling stores in the municipality of Tuba.
