PORTSMOUTH, RI — On Saturday, Feb. 22, Common Fence Music is celebrating Carnival with a special performance by award-winning ensemble, Zili Misik. Led by internationally-educated percussionist Kera Washington, this all-female music and dance ensemble bridges cultures, generations, and continents with captivating rhythms and songs of the African-diaspora.
Reconnecting Haitian music, Jamaican roots reggae, Afro-Brazilian samba, Afro-Cuban son, West African highlife, and African American spirituals, blues, jazz and neo soul, Zili Misik honors its influences while creating an original sound. Be prepared to get on your feet and move to the rhythms at this fun and festive event.
Keeping with the spirit of the evening, Caribbean-inspired dinners and fresh soups will be available for purchase from the CFM kitchen, in addition to its signature selection of baked goods and beverages. For those who wish to carry in their own fare, this show is BYOB and picnic.
This show will take place at the CFP Arts, Wellness and Community Center, in Portsmouth. Venue is fully accessible by lift. Handicapped parking is available adjacent to the building.
