The Eastern Cape government has injected over R17 million in businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The funding is intended to bring financial relief to distressed businesses and save over one thousand jobs.

The video below is reporting on the impact of COVID-19 on businesses in the Eastern  Cape:

Eastern Cape government spokesperson Mvusiwekhaya Sicwetsha says businesses in various sectors have already received some funding.

“All businesses in the Eastern Cape province affected by COVID-19 that need financial assistance can still apply to the Jobs Stimulus Fund, which is administered by the provincial government’s public entity, the Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC). As the provincial government, we believe this financial injection to companies in our province has helped hundreds of workers to save their jobs, protect their livelihood,” explains Sicwetsha.
