Florida Georgia Line‘s Brian Kelly will be teaming up with Lee Daniels to produce a romantic music drama, “Moss Landing,” for ABC.
The prospective series, which is set in a small Florida coastal town and will contain musical numbers, will depict the love story of disgraced country star Marion James and African-American gospel and soul singer Sky Miller, unraveling the mysteries of their troubled pasts and how they rebuilt their lives through the highs and lows.
Lee Shipman, the co-creator of Netflix‘s “Hemlock Grove,” is writing “Moss Landing.” He executive produces the series and will also serve as showrunner.
The drama is the second project from Daniels and 20th Century Fox for ABC this season.
Daniels and Shipman executive produce the series with Marc Velez via Lee Daniels Entertainment, while Kelley will executive produce through his production house CuzBro, with Stephen Snedden and Justin Halliwell.
Kelly and Daniels have set up a country music-gospel mashup series to a script plus penalty deal at the Disney-owned network, as per which ABC will be forced to pay a penalty if the series isn’t picked up.
