SAN JUAN — Former Puerto Rico Gov. Aníbal Acevedo Vilá announced Tuesday that he will be running a campaign to become the island’s representative in the U.S. Congress.
“I make myself available for the candidacy for resident commissioner for the Popular Democratic Party,” Acevedo Vilá said in a message on Facebook.
Acevedo Vilá was resident commissioner in Washington under the administration of former Gov. Sila María Calderón from 2001 to 2005.
The new candidate for the 2020 elections will face Juan Carlos Albors and Sen. José Nadal Power in the PDP primaries.
