As New York City continues to see an uptick in gun violence, 67th Precinct Clergy Council, popularly known as The GodSquad, says it will provide summer employment opportunities for over 60 promising youths in Flatbush, Brooklyn.
In partnership with The NYC Department of Youth and Community Development’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), The GodSquad said on June 26 that 30 youths, ages 16-21, will participate in a work-based experience that will “match their interests and provide enriching career exploration, help foster leadership, networking and develop numerous skills.”
The GodSquad said the youth will work up to 25 hours per week for six weeks in July and August.
“We are also pleased to partner with the Jewish Community Council of Greater Coney Island (JCCGCI) on the City Cleanup Corps paid internship initiative,” it said, stating that more than 30 young people will be paid to work 40 hours weekly for 8-10 weeks.
The GodSquad said it will also be partnering with the Brooklyn-based Sesame Flyers International, Inc. in hosting NYC’s Saturday Night Lights (SNL) Program.
SNL is a violence prevention and youth development program that offers various recreational sports activities to youth ages 11-18 years old, during the hours when crime levels are at the highest on Saturday nights, 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
“This initiative provides an enriching and sustainable outlet for our youth in East Flatbush, beginning July 2021,” The GodSquad said.
