Amid the chaos inflamed by the rhetoric that President Donald Trump has been spouting, specifically around the circumstances of him losing the election, a number of politicians have penciled in a new item on their to-do list today: remove president from office.

According to CNN, there are Cabinet members holding preliminary discussions about impeachment or invoking the 25th Amendment to remove the president from office, although he is slated to leave January 20.

There are also reports that many Republicans are now calling for Trump’s removal as well after he instigated the riot that took place yesterday at the U.S. Capitol.

Several politicians took to social media to voice their displeasure with the president while calling for his removal.

I am drawing up Articles of Impeachment.

Donald J. Trump should be impeached by the House of Representatives & removed from office by the United States Senate.

We can’t allow him to remain in office, it’s a matter of preserving our Republic and we need to fulfill our oath.

— Ilhan Omar (@IlhanMN) January 6, 2021

Trump is the single greatest threat to our democracy.

He is unfit for office and can’t be trusted for another minute as commander in chief.

He must be impeached and removed from office immediately.

— Rep. Barbara Lee (@RepBarbaraLee) January 7, 2021

Donald J. Trump should immediately be impeached by the House of Representatives & removed from office by the United States Senate as soon as Congress reconvenes.

This is dangerous & unacceptable.

— Ayanna Pressley (@AyannaPressley) January 6, 2021

As a member of @HouseJudiciary, I am calling for the immediate impeachment of Donald Trump & his removal from office. I’m also calling for the expulsion of @GOP members of Congress complicit in inciting the attack on our nation’s Capitol.

Their actions must have consequences.

— Congresswoman Cori Bush (@RepCori) January 7, 2021

Trump is directly responsible for this insurrection and violence. He needs to be removed from office immediately. It is the Constitutional responsibility of Vice President Pence and the cabinet to exercise the power granted them by the 25th amendment.

— Seth Moulton (@sethmoulton) January 6, 2021

The President has been encouraging these domestic terrorists since before the election.

He could have stopped them at any moment, but instead he whipped them into a frenzy and sicced them on the Capitol.

The Cabinet must remove him today or the House must impeach.

I stand with my colleagues calling for the immediate impeachment of President Trump and the expulsion of those Members of Congress who continue to stand in the way of the certification of our free and fair election.

Whether through the 25th Amendment or impeachment, President Trump must be removed from office immediately. He is unfit to lead our nation. #ncpol

— Congresswoman Kathy Manning (@RepKManning) January 7, 2021

Donald Trump is a danger to our democracy.

I continue to support his impeachment and removal from office, and am looking carefully at new articles of impeachment being drafted and offered by my colleagues.
