NEW DELHI: The upcoming limited overs series between India and Australia will see both teams wearing ‘different’ national jerseys.
The limited overs series begins on Friday with the first ODI of the three-match series in Sydney.
The Australian team is set to wear specially-designed indigenous shirts in the three-match T20 series, which is scheduled to start from December 4, in a move to recognise and encourage the Indigenous Australians’ role in the sport.
The design is a collaboration between the Aussie jersey manufacturers and two indigenous women – Aunty Fiona Clarke and Courtney Hagen.
The design is an ode to the ancestors and past, present and future aboriginal cricketers. Unveiling the new design, Cricket Australia earlier this month tweeted a photo of fast bowler Mitchell Starc wearing the jersey, saying: “The Australian men’s team will celebrate our First Nations people this summer by wearing this incredible Indigenous playing shirt for the entirety of the #AUSvIND Dettol T20 series!”

The visiting Indian team meanwhile will wear what will probably be their first retro style outfit in the limited overs series — a navy blue jersey with multi-coloured shoulder stripes which is similar to their 1992 World Cup kit. The 1992 World Cup was the first ICC tournament with coloured jerseys.
The new kit sponsors MPL are bringing the retro feel to the iconic jersey, which saw mixed reactions from fans on social media.
India’s opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan gave the fans a glimpse of the new jersey, when he tweeted a photo of himself earlier wearing the jersey. Along with the picture, Dhawan wrote: “New jersey, renewed motivation. Ready to go.”
