Marriott International is further expanding its
all-inclusive footprint in the Caribbean, announcing plans for two new seafront resorts in Jamaica and Curacao.
In Jamaica, the Marriott Hotel Al Amaterra is expected to be
completed early next year. The 800-room hotel will be located within
the new Amaterra Resort, currently under development in Trelawney on the north coast.
In Curacao, Marriott will open a 283-room Autograph
Collection resort in the historical Pietermaai district of
Willemstad. That resort is scheduled to open by 2024.
The signings come as Marriott makes inroads into the
all-inclusive space. In August, the company unveiled plans to open four new all-inclusives under
four brands — Ritz-Carlton, Autograph Collection, Westin
and Marriott — in Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit region between
2022 and 2025 as well as a new Autograph Collection all-inclusive in the
Dominican Republic by 2022.
In October, Marriott made an offer to acquire Elegant
Hotels, which owns and operates seven Barbados hotels, the majority of which
are all-inclusive. Marriott said it plans to renovate the Elegant properties and operate all of
them as all-inclusives under a Marriott portfolio brand.
