The mother of slain Moruga man Venrick Hudlin said she cannot sleep comfortably at nights until justice is done in the killing of a 54-year-old son who was shot dead by an off-duty policeman.
Mary Hudlin Walker said, for the past week, she has been having nightmares about him taking his last breath.
“I wonder if he would have called out to me for help. I am not doing well at all. I can’t sleep and I will not be able to sleep until I get closure knowing that this man will pay for what he did.”
Walker said she buried her son last Saturday after a funeral at the family home but did not feel a sense of closure after his killing on August 29.
“The investigations are taking way too long when the evidence is there of what really happened. Eyewitnesses also gave statements. Why are they taking so long to arrest this policeman?”
Walker said the policeman ,who lives in the area, has been seen every day.
“He is going about his life while he took the life of a man, my son, who was innocent. Then this man fabricated an entire story which I believe they are trying to buy time to cover up what really happened.”
Hudlin was shot by the off- duty policeman near his Gomez Trace St Mary’s Village Moruga home. Reports said Hudlin and the policeman had an altercation that day after Hudlin spoke to the policeman about dumping rubbish on a property in the village where he was a watchman.
Residents confirmed they also heard Hudlin and the policeman arguing about the dumping of rubbish on the property. The family got video footage which is now in the hands of investigators and showed the moments leading up to Hudlin’s death.
The footage appears to show Hudlin, with a cutlass in hand, walk over a drain on Habanero Drive.
A blue SUV pulls up alongside and Hudlin speaks briefly with someone in it. He appears to raise his hand holding the cutlass and is shot by someone in the car. He falls into a drain. Two men get out of the car and put Hudlin into it.
There have been protests over Hudlin’s killing in the week since he died. The Police Complaints Authority is still investigating the killing.
