THE Point Fortin Borough Council, on Friday, distributed tablets to primary and secondary school students to assist with online learning. The borough’s mayor, Saleema McCree Thomas officially launched an education drive called Point Online. Thomas said she was approached by Innovative Systems Ltd to “assist in the realisation of innovation centres within the borough.

“I immediately knew that with this level of commitment shown the council had to help turn those ideas into reality. “At a time like this, it is only when there are collegial partnerships among the business community in the borough and the council, will we be able to tackle global threats and issues intrinsic to us here in Point Fortin.”

She said the council believes one of its roles is to support companies like this with their initiatives. “The project epitomises the ideas of new collaboration and knowledge sharing, delivery of targeted solutions through a coordinated effort.

“Thirdly, Innovative Systems Limited Share has explored known gaps and areas that lack focus within Point Fortin because of the many closures and restructuring of companies within the energy landscape as far back as Shell, Texaco, Trintoc, to recently Petrotrin and its Trinmar operations.”

She said such efforts will alleviate “new realities” as the borough continues to “grapple with the economic effects of this global pandemic.

“There is no doubt that the pandemic continues to have significant business impact in terms of organisations wondering what to do right now and what to do long-term? When it comes to digital transformation and covid19, what are the right moves to make now and in the future?”

She said investing in TT’s future means investing in its children, noting that it was Universal Children’s Day.
