President Cyril Ramaphosa will this week brief Parliament on a number of issues affecting South Africans.

This will range from the provision of housing, water, and sanitation to how government is tackling corruption.

Ramaphosa is also expected to brief the nation on what government is doing to mitigate the impact of the coronavirus on the country’s citizens.

“The President’s responses to questions for oral reply will span progress in relation to efforts to combat corruption and state capture; South Africa’s Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan in relation to the provision of basic services to ensure access to water, sanitation and the creation of human settlements, and the President’s responsibilities as African Union Chairperson, ” says the Presidency.

Last month, Ramaphosa  addressed a joint sitting of Parliament on government’s plan to get the economy back into a job-creating growth path following the national lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19.

He stated that the main focus of government’s economic recovery are on five key areas; the creation of jobs, the re-industrialisation of the economy, economic reforms, fighting crime and corruption and improving the capacity of the state.

Ramaphosa added that the plan is guided by the vision 2030 of the National Development Plan and the programme that was outlined at the beginning of the sixth democratic administration

He said government has committed R100 billion over the next three years to create jobs through public and social employment as the labour market recovers. The President says the economic recovery plan, known as the South African Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan, aims to create over 800 000 work opportunities in the immediate term.
