Scholly, a popular scholarship-matching platform, is giving back to students in need in midst of the coronavirus crisis.

On Thursday, the tech-based educational app launched the Scholly COVID-19 Relief Fund, which provides low-income students and parents with $200 to help get supplies and groceries on a rolling basis. With the support of family foundations and individual donors, the initiative aims to help as many families as possible in light of the global pandemic, which has shut down school systems and businesses throughout the nation.

“By providing $200 in cash assistance, we aim to provide essential financial help to buy groceries, health supplies, and other necessities to those in need,” reads a statement on the company’s website.

For the last five years, Scholly claims to have helped students win $100 million dollars in scholarships. Hence, Scholly CEO Christopher Gray described the relief fund as “a no brainer.”

“Scholly’s brand and product has been built by students for students so the company feels it is our duty to step in and help as many students as possible,” he said in a statement. “We are working with foundations, brands, and other startups to raise as much as we can to make a real impact.”

Self-described as the no. 1 rated scholarship app in the world, Scholly provides students with access to hundreds of scholarships, for college or graduate school. The platform also uses artificial intelligence to proofread and edit academic papers, essays, and other writing assignments.

Gray created Scholly to empower students with the same techniques that helped him earn $1.3 million in scholarships while he was in college. His company received national attention when it was featured on Shark Tank and landed a deal with Daymond John and Lori Greiner, while also sparking one of the biggest fights in the show’s history.

In January, Scholly partnered with Grammy Award-winning artist Lil Nas X to provide three deserving high school and current college students with $10,000 each in scholarships.

Students can apply at  COV1D-19 Student Relief Fund here. If approved, applicants will be sent instructions on how to access funds.
