ONLY a handful of protestors showed up outside City Gate in Port of Spain on Tuesday to demand justice for the murders of two-year-old Aniah Mc Leod and her father Stephon Mc Leod. They were shot a short distance away from the child’s Tunapuna home on Friday last week.

Commissioner of Police, Gary Griffith, the following day in a social media post, asked where was the public outcry.

One protester on Tuesday, Laura Ortiz of Santa Cruz, said she joined in because she wanted justice to be done.

“I have children and grandchildren. I saw (a post advertising the rally on Facebook) and it really touched me. How could they do that to a little child?”

Organiser of the protest, Jean Paul Cooper, said citizens need to unify against injustice in the country.

“We cannot sit down on this one. We have lost enough and we are not willing to lose any more. We are totally fed up of all the unfavourable things happening in this country.”

Cooper, leader of the group, TT Unity Power (TTUP), called on the authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice.

He hopes to continue with the protests for the rest of the week.

Another protester, Ishmael Toruba of Chaguanas, said he was also hurting.

“At the end of the day, it is the youths that are picking up the guns. As a young man I am ashamed about what is happening in my country. Crime is getting out of hand, and I will even go as far as to call for the resignation of the National Security Minister (Stuart Young).”
