PILI, Camarines Sur, April 3 (PIA) – Even with the imminent threat of allowing “outsiders” under their care, the Spear Troopers of the 9th Infantry Division under the headship of MGEN FERNANDO T TRINIDAD AFP, Commander of 9ID, didn’t think twice to adopt 80 passengers stranded at the Del Gallego border.

The stranded passengers arrived at the said facility March 29 and will have to complete the 14-day quarantine period before they can go home to their respective families.

The said passengers came from Metro Manila and other adjoining provinces and were affected by the lockdown after President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the implementation of Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) to contain the spread of COVID-19 virus.

“The Old Division Training School of the 9ID ID will serve as temporary isolation facility of 32 residents from Masbate, 32 from Surigao and 16 from General Santos. These passengers will be observing the 14-day quarantine period pursuant to the directives of ECQ on home or self quarantine,” 9th Infantry “Spear” Division Public Affairs Office (DPAO) Spokesperson CPT. John Paul Belleza said.

In consistence with the pronouncement of Duterte, stranded passengers at the borders will no longer be allowed to go home unless they finished their mandatory quarantine.

Left with no other alternatives and out of compassion, MGen Trinidad directed his men to take the stranded passengers and temporarily house them inside the camp,

Belleza said that before these passengers were transferred at the old Division Training School, they first underwent a thorough medical check-up.

“The 9th ID also provided these passengers with some of the basic items such as pail, dippers and soaps for their hygiene. They will also be provided with regular meals in the entire duration of their quarantine. While on quarantine, they are also directed to observe social distancing and proper self-hygiene,” Belleza added.

MGEN Trinidad, assured the families of the stranded passengers and the public that military units are prepared to accommodate individuals who are affected by the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) be it as staging area or as temporary quarantine facility as this is a response to cooperate with other government agencies in its all-out campaign against COVID-19.

The 9th ID is also in close coordination with the Camarines Sur Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) to ensure that profiling and other set quarantine protocols are observed. (LSMacatangay, DPAO9thID-PIAV/Camarines Sur)
