Paris-SANA_ Syria participates in the 40th session of General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) which is currently held in Paris, France.

On the sidelines of the conference, Minister of Education, Imad al-Azab, delivered the national education plan of education in Syria to UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education Stefania Giannini.

He made a presentation on the great efforts exerted by the Syrian Government to continue the educational process, rehabilitate schools destroyed by terrorists, accommodate all dropped-out students, improve the educational environment, develop curricula and to improve the capacity of teaching frameworks.

Minister al-Azab and the accompanying delegation also held an extended meeting with Assistant Director-General for Culture of UNESCO Ernesto Ottone, during which he stressed the need to work for recovering Syrian antiquities stolen by terrorist groups and stopping their illegal excavations.

He said that the Syrian government is ready to provide the necessary support to the experts and specialists of the organization in this regard.

In meetings with representatives of Egypt, Bahrain, the UAE, the Russian Federation, Ecuador, Venezuela and Portugal to UNESCO, the Minister of Education underlined Syria’s constant keenness to comply with the rules of international law and its conventions.

For their part, representatives of the previously mentioned countries appreciated Syria’s position and its commitment to participate in the conference despite the French government’s attempt to withhold entry visas of the Syrian delegation.
